On completion of the interview, the interviewer gave feedback to participants. Participants were also given 1 000 Rwandan Francs for the completion of the interview. The reliability of the M.I.N.I. in our MSA language was assessed by the same team of psychiatrists that were involved in the international validation of the M.I.N.I. First, six psychiatrists that had previously served as raters in this international study (the senior author being one of them) independently diagnosed a sample of 40 MSA patients. For the purpose of the present study, the sample was divided into two subsamples of 20 patients each. Each psychiatrist separately diagnosed the patients using the following diagnostic criteria (DSM-IV or ICD-10):
This is a published article (available online in Spanish) that is translated from an English language version. Clinical translations are preferred [ 25 ] to ensure reproducibility of the results and generalizability of the findings to other populations. The development of the Arabic version of the M.I.N.I. was carried out in three stages. First, the original version of the M.I.N.I. was translated in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO)'s guidelines for translation of diagnostic and other assessment instruments into local languages [ 26 ]. The translation and back translation process were led by a native Arabic speaker (QN). Second, the face and content validity was tested in a sample of professionals with experience using the M.I.N.I. (by authors GS and TS). The instrument was first evaluated by two mental health professionals (one psychiatrist and one psychologist), and after discussion and revision, it was also evaluated by two clinical psychologists who are experienced in the use of the M.I.N.I. (author TS). Third, the reliability was established by a sample of mental health professionals with experience using the M.I.N.I. (by authors GS and QN). The Arabic M.I.N.I. was then tested using the WHO international field test procedures [ 25 ] for cross-cultural validity, as well as the interrater reliability. 3d9ccd7d82
