Click on Finish to exit the installer. You have successfully installed Xming on your Windows machine.


Step 2: Run Xming




To run Xming, you can either click on the Xming shortcut in your start menu or desktop, or run the xming.exe file from the installation folder. You will see an icon in your system tray like this:


This means that Xming is running in the background and waiting for connections from remote graphical applications.


Step 3: Connect to Remote Graphical Applications




To connect to remote graphical applications, you will need to use an SSH client that supports X11 forwarding, such as PuTTY or MobaXterm. You will also need to enable X11 forwarding on the remote server by editing the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file and setting X11Forwarding yes.


For example, if you want to connect to a Linux server with the IP address 192.168.1.100 and run the xclock application, you can do the following:


  • Open PuTTY and enter the IP address of the remote server in the Host Name field.



  • Go to Connection > SSH > X11 and check the Enable X11 forwarding box.



  • Click on Open to start the SSH session.



  • Enter your username and password when prompted.



  • Type xclock in the terminal and press Enter.
