Bhaag Milkha Bhaag 2 is a Hindi-language biographical sports drama film that follows the life of Milkha Singh after his retirement from athletics. The film is a sequel to the 2013 blockbuster Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which chronicled Milkha Singh's incredible struggle from being an orphan to becoming one of India's greatest athletes. The film is based on the autobiography The Race of My Life, co-written by Milkha Singh and his daughter Sonia Sanwalka.

The film is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who also helmed the first part. The film is written by Prasoon Joshi, who also penned the lyrics for the songs composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The film is produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and ROMP Pictures. The film stars Farhan Akhtar in the titular role, reprising his award-winning performance from the first part. Sonam Kapoor plays Nirmal Kaur, Milkha Singh's wife and former captain of the Indian women's volleyball team. Divya Dutta plays Isri Kaur, Milkha Singh's elder sister and his pillar of support.


Plot




The film begins with Milkha Singh receiving the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in 1969 for his contribution to sports. He then decides to retire from competitive running and focus on coaching young athletes. He also marries Nirmal Kaur, whom he met during the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo. The couple settles down in Chandigarh and has three children: Jeev Milkha Singh, Sonia Sanwalka, and Mona Singh.


The film then depicts the various challenges and achievements that Milkha Singh faces in his post-retirement life. He establishes the Milkha Singh Charitable Trust, which aims to assist poor and needy sportspeople. He also participates in various social causes and campaigns, such as promoting literacy, peace, and harmony among different communities. He also reconciles with his long-lost childhood friend Sampreet Singh, who had migrated to Pakistan during the Partition of India.


The film also showcases some of the memorable moments from Milkha Singh's life, such as his meeting with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, his visit to Pakistan at the invitation of General Zia-ul-Haq, his participation in the torch relay for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, and his cameo appearance in the first part of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The film ends with Milkha Singh passing away at the age of 91 in 2021 due to COVID-19 complications, leaving behind a legacy of inspiration and excellence.
